Fall at Penn State can mean a lot of things. To many, it means football. But tailgating and watching a 4-hour-long game isn’t everyone’s favorite thing to do. So, if you’re not about the football season, here are some other ways to enjoy Penn State this time of year.
To begin with, everyone knows the Berkery Creamery has the best ice cream in Pennsylvania and beyond.
Then there’s the Pegula Ice Arena, which is a multi-purpose arena on campus. It is a perfect place go ice skating.
An adventurer would enjoy hiking on Mount Nittany, a prominent geographic feature in Centre County.
Strolling through the beautiful and scenic gardens of Penn State’s Arboretum is also a mesmerizing experience. You’ll find several gardens, hundreds of unique species of plants and flowers, and the Children’s Gate, which has lots of natural and manmade treasures to discover.
Penn State is also known for the Bryce Jordan Center which is home to both Penn State women’s and men’s basketball as well as a popular lineup for concerts and shows hosting stars like the Jonas Brothers, Chainsmokers, and Twenty-One.
Love art? The Palmer Art Museum is the perfect place for you. With a collection of over 9,000 objects representing a variety of cultures and spanning centuries of art, Palmer is the largest art museum between Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. The museum holds a collection of American art from the late eighteenth century to the present, old master paintings, prints and photography, ceramics and studio glass, and modern and contemporary art.
Apart from these on campus engagements, there are plenty of off campus things to do. To engage yourself into something really different and creative, 2000 Degrees downtown can be a perfect fit. It provides hundreds of pieces of pre-fired pottery and gives you a chance to demonstrate your artistic abilities and decorate your own piece of pottery.
Last but not the least, the State Theatre operates as one of the cultural hubs for Downtown State College and hosts all kinds of events including concerts, musicals, comedy shows, movies and much more. It is owned by a non-profit organization and is an intimate spot to enjoy the performances of eminent and talented artists.
